Rates for Professional EditingMany people offering author services don’t publish rates, arguing that competition should be based on quality, not price. I wholeheartedly agree with that, but as a professional I also believe in transparency and not wasting people’s time. While each editing project is priced according to a number of factors* after a close analysis of the ms., my starting price for each type of service is indicated below. A $500 minimum fee applies to all editing projects. Single Edit Solution (SES) – includes full copyediting plus selective line editing: 3c/word and up. This is the editing service many indie authors choose. Developmental/comprehensive editing: 4c/word and up, depending on material. Full line editing 3c/word and up, depending on material. Copyediting 2c/word and up, depending on material. Critique (fixed price):
Proofreading: 2c/word and up, depending on material ($300 job minimum). Print formatting: $400 and up, depending on length and complexity. Phone/Video/Email support: $75/hr. Everything from KDP upload guidance to full writing project management. Questions on all aspects of indie publishing answered. Writing coach and mentor. All published rates are in US dollars (USD). In the case of full novels (over 60k words), I provide you with a free edited sample of the first 2,500 words. If you like my work and the price is acceptable, terms are 50% on commission/signing and full balance due immediately prior to delivery of completed project. |
