Professional Editing Services
I offer full manuscript services for writers. With twelve years of experience, I’ve edited and/or copyedited scores of novels, five anthologies, and various nonfiction works. My independent author clients have won awards and racked up hundreds upon hundreds of five-star reviews.
I also have over two decades of writing and critiquing experience and five books of my own in print, one of which was a UK nonfiction bestseller. This experience gives me the ability to look at and edit a manuscript in a way a simple editor cannot, bringing more nuance and understanding of the writer's style and goals rather than just following a set of prescriptive rules.
Rates and full descriptions of services can be found on my Services page. I also provide professional print formatting services.
The Value of Copyediting
Any author's best draft is guaranteed to contain a number of issues, both major and minor. These will include typos, punctuation errors, grammatical infelicities, errant capitalization, over- or mis-used words, missing dialog tags, inconsistencies in characters' appearance or behavior, holes in plot logic, and worse--typically several hundred items of varying importance, and often thousands over the course of a novel. It's not unusual to find between five and ten items requiring correction on every page of a long work. You can’t see them, but readers will. This can result in negative reviews and lost sales.
The editor's job is twofold: first, to ensure that your story is the best it can be, and that you hit what you're aiming at; and second, to protect you, the author, from every possible circumstance that may cause embarrassment, criticism, scathing reviews, or ridicule. It's a job I'm passionate about and take pride in, and it's an honor to help writers bring their dreams to life. With editing for indies as well as authors going the traditional route, I'm pleased to be able to offer quality, affordable editing to the writing community.
"I was so impressed by the book I have promised myself that this will be the last book on writing fiction I will ever buy."
